My fav TV character: Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy

Today, channels in the Indian English GEC space are making efforts to acquire shows as close to their international launch. Audiences have evolved and are much more receptive to English general entertainment shows that they find engaging and fresh.

Minakshi Achan, Co-Founder, Salt Brand Solutions shared that Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy is her favourite, owing to the shades of grey that is infused into her character and the way she does what she thinks is right.

Ellen Pompeo aka Meredith Grey is the main female protagonist who is accepted into the residency program at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. Meredith is assigned to work under Dr Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), along with Dr Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Dr George O'Malley (TR Knight), Dr Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and Dr Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). Meredith is the narrator of the show and serves as the focal point for most episodes.

exchange4media chats with Minakshi Achan to find out what she likes about Meredith Grey.

Who is your favourite character in the Indian television space?
My favourite television character is Meredith Grey portrayed by Ellen Pompeo from Grey’s Anatomy.

What do you like about her?
Well, just the fact that she is interesting and isn’t a syrupy diabetic character. She is fairly dark in her views of life and observes life not in boring black and white but in shades of grey. She doesn't perceive life as good or bad but does what she thinks is right.

Do you think she does justice to the storyline?
The show wouldn’t be what it is without her. She is the show’s narrator, the protagonist and the focal point of the series.

Do you think the popularity of a particular character extends itself to the show or a show shapes up the characters?
Viewers identify with characters. They connect with them and they look forward to it episode after episode. In this case, Meredith makes the show. The show is seen through her eyes literally and all of us viewers tune in to see her. As the show progresses, and depending on the situation and circumstances, the character is built up and develops its tenor along the way.

How often do you tune in to Grey’s Anatomy?
I watch it as often as I can late nights on weekdays.
