If anyone has been missing Cyrus Broacha and his bag of gags, they can cheer as MTV is all set to celebrate the return of the ‘Bakra’ in its bigger and more outrageous avatar – ‘Baap of Bakra’. The 13 new half-hour episodes will be aired from August 26 at 8 pm.
‘Baap of Bakra’, to be hosted by MTV VJ Broacha, will play new gags on masses and the classes with newer setups, exposés, revenge gags (historic bakras that come back to settle old scores), celebrity bakras, thematised bakras, et al. It will also showcase some of the classic gags from the bakra library interspersed with trivia on the ‘The World’s Greatest Hoaxes’.
The channel has been showcasing one of India’s funniest show by prowling the streets and by-lanes of India making ‘bakras’ out of unsuspecting people. The new season of ‘Baap of Bakra’ has a differential element to it in terms of setups. This time it is no longer only the cliched barbershop or the blind taxi driver gags but larger-than-life setups, multi-location settings and even mass bakras.
Commenting on the popularity of the show, Ashish Patil, VP and GM, Creative
and Content, MTV Networks India, said, “From the time it was launched in July 1999, ‘MTV Bakra’ has caught the imagination of Indian viewers and has consistently been one of the highest rated shows on MTV. In fact, because of the popularity of the show, April 1 (April Fool’s Day) was renamed Bakra Din and continues to be called so. And this season is something to watch out for.”
