Miditech, Strix Television AB sign production and licensing agreement

Miditech and Strix Television AB signed a production and licensing agreement, whereby Miditech will have exclusive Indian licensing and production rights to the entire Strix format catalogue in India. A deal that has been brewing for a few months will synergise the strengths of these two reality and format market leaders.

Nikhil Alva, CEO, Miditech, said, “The tie-up will let Miditech localise the formats – a key factor that contributes to the success of international shows in an Indian context. And a lot of the shows in Strix’s catalogue are what the next step in reality programming in the country is. It will also let us offer products in cost effective packages to broadcasters. Products that have a proven track records in many countries worldwide.”

Strix’s CEO, Robert Aschberg, added, “We are delighted to enter into a fruitful and long-term alliance with Miditech since we have seen demand for Strix formats increase exponentially in India over the last few months. Miditech is a perfect fit for Strix with its great ability to produce high-quality programming for the Indian audiences and we are confident that Strix’s catalogue will suit the Indian TV market splendidly.”

Miditech, run by brothers Nikhil and Niret Alva, has pioneered reality television in India with shows like ‘Hospital’, and ‘Commando’ for the BBC. Today, Miditech is the market leader when it comes to reality television and adapting international formats for the Indian market. Amongst the better known international formats that have originated from the Miditech stable in the recent past include ‘Indian Idol’, ‘Fame Gurukul’, ‘Dance Dance’, ‘Playhouse Disney’, ‘MTV Bajoed!’ and ‘MTV Roadies’. Currently under production are the mega international formats ‘Deal or No Deal’, ‘Sesame Street’ and ‘Extreme Makeover’.

With several national and international awards to its credit, Miditech has the widest client base amongst production companies in India. From MTV, BBC, National Geographic and Discovery on the one hand to Doordarshan, STAR Network, Sony Entertainment Network and the Zee Network on the other, and more niche broadcasters like Pogo, Cartoon Network and Zoom, Miditech produces a diverse range of programming – reality, international formats, documentaries, kids programming, fiction and lifestyle, and entertainment shows. Several of its documentaries and programme series are marketed worldwide, either through top distributors or directly.
