Mi Marathi, the Marathi general entertainment channel from Broadcast Initiatives Ltd, is creating freshness with an all-new programme line-up. Starting March 23, 2009, the channel will have as many as 14 new shows. Plans are afoot to kick off an aggressive campaign through hoardings, TV and print close to the launch of the new programmes.
Live India is the other channel from Broadcast Initiatives Ltd. Commenting on the new line-up, Sudhir Chaudhary, CEO & Editor, Live India, said, “There will be versions of the newly-introduced reality shows along with some bright entertainment of daily soaps. When it comes to television viewing, Marathi viewers like to be as much grounded in reality as they would like to take fantasy flights. It is reality shows that have taken precedence in today’s times. Viewers can look forward to several new offerings on Mi Marathi.”
The channel will showcase all of 14 news shows that include: ‘Salaam Maharashtra’ from Salaam Series; ‘Chotee Khushi Mottha Fun’, a comedy talent hunt; ‘Mi Marathi Cinema’, which will showcase Marathi movies; ‘Nach Dhamaal’, a dance reality show comprising celebrity pairs; ‘Markrand Anaspure’, an interview-based programme; ‘Chang Bhala’, which will have well-known politicians and celebrities like Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Chagan Bhujbal, Bharat Jadhav, Nana Patekar, Sachin Tendulkar, etc., replying to various questions.
Other new programmes include, ‘M… Marathi Cha’, a non-Marathi tuition given by well-known comedy artist Atul Parchure; ‘Picnic Range Taryaa Sange’, a unique concept where common people will get a chance to picnic with celebrities of the Marathi television industry; ‘Aamcha Chinya’, a kid-based daily soap; ‘Hasya Katta’, a reality show in which the celebrity panel takes on the country’s latest and hottest topics with tools they know best such as stand-up comedy, etc.; ‘Mi Marathi Batmya’. Mi Marathi has introduced four news bulletins in a day, while the channel will also have special election bulletins to cover the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
‘Ek Soneri Paan / Ek Hoti Kadambari / Ek Katha’ are some short stories that will feature on the channel; ‘Batmya Vishvache’, a special bulletin to be presented along with Marathi celebrities once a week. It will cover weekly news of Maharashtra, India and the world. ‘Astitva Shodh Niyaticha’, a soap were the female main character will be played by a male artist, Yatin Karyekar, who gets spiritual powers once in a month; and ‘Varcha Class’, the story of a joint family in which two generations are forcefully living together due to their parents’ will.
Mi Marathi has tied up with Endemol to showcase premium entertainment for Marathi viewers. Endemol has worked on three shows – ‘Chotee Khushi Mottha Fun’, ‘Hasya Katta’ and ‘Aamcha Chinya’.
