Mahuaa TV plans 2 more channels; beefs up top team

Close on the heels of appointing STAR India’s EVP, Vivek Bahl, as Consultant, regional broadcaster Mahuaa TV has now brought on board Nilesh Thakkar as Senior Vice President. He is joining the group on April 7, 2011. Thakkar will be reporting to Nikhil Seth, President, Sales.

Though Thakkar refused to disclose his role in the group, it is assumed that given his expertise in regional media, he would be working for the upcoming regional channels of the group. Speaking to exchange4media, Thakkar said, “Working with Star Majha and MCCS was a very fruitful experience. It was great to work with people like Ashok Venkatramani and Uday Shankar. I am looking forward to some great experience with Mahuaa too.”

Commenting on Thakkar’s appointment, Nikhil Seth said, “The role we have envisaged for him is that of National Head for Mahuaa’s upcoming channels. He would be a great asset to the sales team and will help us take the proposed channels to new heights of success.”

Seth further said that Thakkar’s expertise in BTL would also help the group in a big way.

Thakkar brings in 18 years of experience in the media industry. He had joined MCCS as Regional Manager in January 2005. He had also been instrumental in launching Star Majha. Besides, he had also worked as all India Head - Events and Activation for the channels of STAR.

Prior to MCCS, he was with Zee TV as Assistant Vice President for Zee Marathi, Gujarati and Bangla. Before that, he had worked with Bharat Kapadia, Chitralekha Gujarati and Marathi.

Meanwhile, Mahuaa is expected to launch two more channels soon and these developments are being seen in the same lines. Mahuaa Media currently owns and operates two regional language channels – Mahuaa TV (Bhojpuri) and Mahuaa Bangla.
