Maa TV, Jaya TV tie up to bring Tollywood Vs Kollywood cricket live from Sharjah

Telugu entertainment channel Maa TV and Tamil entertainment channel Jaya TV have joined hands to bring ‘live’ to audiences of both languages, a cricket match from Sharjah. The day-night match between film stars from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is scheduled for March 10, and follows a 30-overs a side day-night match between the two teams in Chennai in February.

The magic of cinema and cricket was to be recreated at Sharjah originally on January 27, but was shifted to Chennai later. Jaya TV said that the encouraging response to the ‘Arokya Cup’ match on February 4 had led to this match.

Speaking to exchange4media, V Murali Raaman, VP-Programmes and Operations, Jaya TV, said, “There was very good response to the first match, and viewers have given us very positive feedback. Since it involves stars from both the film industries, we are sure that this second match will also be received well. It will be a grander affair in Sharjah and we are also flying special guests to the venue from here.” These special guests include actresses Khushboo, Shriya and Angela.

There seem to be no problem of selection that professional cricket gets embroiled in, and the one change in the Tamil stars cricket team is that ‘Kadhal’ hero Bharat replaces Shaam. The Kollywood team is captained by Abbas, while his counterpart from the Telugu space is Tarun. The star cast for this encounter includes Madhavan, Simbu, Bharat, Srikanth, and Arya among others.

Billed originally as the MGR-NTR tourney, the event represents another programming opportunity re-discovered and finetuned by channels to engage audiences. On Jaya TV, Bosskey and Uma Padmanabhan will do the commentary honours.
