Kids advise DD Bharati on programming

After getting a lukewarm response from viewers and advertisers, the Prasar Bharati has recently invited nearly 30 schools from Delhi to discuss the nature of programming for its new channel DD Bharati.

According to Prasar Bharati sources, they have received a tremendous response from the students. Several interesting ideas have been accepted by the officials.

According to the sources, one of the programme-ideas generated at these discussions was “Students' helpline”, a one-hour phone-in show discussing issues like examinations, career and vacation-planning.

Other concepts included a show on different religions, aimed at understanding the basic principles of each faith.

Doordarshan had soft launched DD Bharati on Republic Day this year. The commercial launch of the channel is scheduled for April, and Prasar Bharati is waiting for some major chunks of programming for the channel to fall into place before it goes out full steam.

DD Bharati has garnered Rs 5 lakh in revenues since its launch. At present, the content on the channel is primarily recycled software from Doordarshan's libraries, coupled with some new programming produced especially for DD Bharati.
