In week 6 (February 1 – 7, 2015) all the top Hindi GECs saw their ratings decline or stay the same except for Star Plus that saw an increase in ratings. Colors once again regains second spot in the Hindi GEC space despite losing some ground, but was largely due to a decline from Zee TV. A closer look at the shows gives a better picture regarding the reasons behind the channels’ performance.
According to data sourced from TAM subscribers, Star Plus in week 6 saw its ratings increase to 645 million GVTs from 616 million GVTs in week 5. A majority of the channel’s shows saw a large increase in their ratings this week and there were relatively less declines. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein and Tu Mera Hero both saw large increase in their ratings this week and increased to 9.1 and 7.1 TVTs respectively from 8.6 and 6.3 TVTs respectively in week 5. Other shows that increased in ratings included Saath Nibhana Saathiya, Diya Aur Baati Hum, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Masterchef India and Airlines which increased to 8.9, 10.9, 8.6, 3.3 and 0.8 TVTs respectively in week 6 from 8.5, 10.6, 8.1, 3.1 and 0.7 TVTs respectively in week 5. Veera, which has changed its time slot last week to 5 pm from 10 pm earlier as part of the channels plan to widen the time band for original programming, had seen the its ratings fall marginally this week to 3.2 TVTs. A week earlier it had dropped from 4.7 TVTs in week 4 to 3.3 TVTs in week 5 due to the change in timings. Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Du and Suhani Si Ek Ladki declined to 2.7 and 5.4 TVTs respectively in week 6 from 2.9 and 6.1 TVTs in week 5 respectively. Whereas Nisha Aur Uske Cousins, Everest and PI Private Investigator stayed the same as last week at 4.9, 3.2 and 1.1 TVTs respectively.
Colors on the other hand saw its ratings decline this week to 454 million GVTs from 477 million GVTs in week 5. The channel however managed to regain the second spot despite losing ground on the back of a decline from Zee TV this week. The reason for marginal loss this week despite the end of Bigg Boss Halla Bol season 8 last week was the excellent start by two shows Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi season 6 and Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat as replacements. The reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi which replaces the top reality show Bigg Boss 8 on the weekend slot of 9pm – 10 pm brought in excellent ratings of 8.6 TVTs in its first week. Historical drama, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat, which replaces Bigg Boss 8 on the weekday slot of 9pm – 10pm also brought in equally good ratings of 5.4 TVTs. Some of the other shows that saw an increase during the week included Comedy Nights with Kapil, Uttaran, Udaan and Sasural Simar Ka which increased to 5.8, 2.5, 7.0 and 7.7 TVTs from 4.9, 2.4, 6.6 and 7.3 TVTs in week 5. However, there were declines which pulled the channel a little down. Shastri Sisters, Balika Vadhu and Meri Ashiqui declined to 2.9, 5.5 and 6.0 TVTs in week 6 from 3.2, 5.8 and 6.4 TVTs in week 5 respectively.
Zee TV this week saw a large decline and fell to 451 million GVTs from 485 million GVTs in week 5. The channel saw an equal number of inclines and declines, however the inclines marginal. Bandhan, recently launched show Hello Pratibha, Doli Armano Ki and Maharakshak Aryan all declined to 2.7, 2.7, 4.3 and 0.7 TVTs in week 6 respectively from 3.2, 2.9, 4.5 and 1.2 TVTs in week 6 respectively. Shows that increased this week included Jodha Akbar, Jamai Raja, Kumkum Bhagya Qubool Hai, Satrangi Sasural, Neeli Chhatri Waale and Saregama Lil Champs and rose to 5.9, 7.3, 8.9, 6.6, 4.9, 4.3 and 4.1 TVTs respectively in week 6 from 5.5, 6.9, 8.4, 6.0, 4.6, 3.9 and 3.6 TVTs in week 5 respectively.
Life OK maintained its No.4 spot on the ratings board despite a decline this week. Its ratings fell to 310 million GVTs in week 6 from 338 million GVTs in week 5. Most of the shows saw a marginal decline in week 6 with only one show’s ratings increasing. Shapath was the show that saw its ratings increase marginally to 2.7 TVTs in week 6 from 2.3 TVTs in week 5. Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali, Mahakumbh, Pukar, Laut Aao Trisha, Comedy Classes and Savdhan India declined to 1.3, 2.4, 0.9, 0.9, 2.8 and 2.8 TVTs in week 6 respectively from 1.4, 2.7, 1.1, 1.0, 3.0 and 2.9 TVTs in week 5 respectively. Ajeeb Daastan Hai Yeh saw its ratings stay the same as last week at 1.3 TVTs.
Sab TV saw its ratings stay the same from last week at 294 million GVTs. Most of the shows saw a marginal incline in their ratings during the past week. Balveer, Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah, Chidiya Ghar, Badi Door se Aaye Hai, Yam Hai Hum and The Great Indian Family Drama increased to 2.8, 7.3, 3.1, 2.5, 2.3 and 1.2 TVTs respectively in week 6 from 2.7, 6.8, 2.7, 2.0, 1.7, and 1.0 TVTs in week 5 respectively. Peterson Hill declined to 1.4 TVTs this week from 1.6 TVTs last week.
Sony Entertainment Television (SET) once again fell behind, to 236 million GVTs in week 6 from 263 million GVTs in week 5. The channel saw half of its shows increase in ratings while the other half declined during the week. Tum Eise Hi Rehana, Hum Hain Na, Maharana Pratap and Humsafars declined to 0.7, 0.8, 2.3 and 0.5 TVTs in week 6 respectively from 8.8, 1.0, 2.5 and 0.6 TVTs in week 5 respectively. On the shows that increased their ratings this week included Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar, CID, Adaalat, Crime Patrol and Bhanwar which rose to 2.1, 4.2, 2.0, 1.5 and 2.0 in week 6 from 2.0, 3.9, 1.8, 1.4 and 1.9 TVTs in week 5 respectively.
