Jaya TV’s Jack Pot nears 150th episode; to launch youth-based game show soon

Tamil entertainment channel Jaya TV’s game show Jack Pot is nearing its 150th episode. Buoyed by the success of the game show and the potential of the genre, the channel is all set to unveil a youth-based game show shortly.

It is also learnt from reliable sources that the channel has signed up maestro Illayaraja in an exclusive contract for a live show to be telecast on Jaya TV soon.

The 150th episode of Jack Pot promises to be of as much celebrity chat show value as of game show content, with filmstars and celebs being the contestants. Arokya Milk, the Hatsun milk brand, continues to be the presenting sponsor of the show since its first episode.

Rajan Mathews, Marketing Manager, Hatsun Agro Products Ltd, said, “Thirty lakh consumers of Arokya Milk watch Jack Pot each week. Arokya Milk stands for intellectual and fast thinking, the same things displayed through the show. The show has also consistently improved over the years and we are hopeful of being associated with it when it reaches 300 episodes and more.”

A promotional show reel screened at a media interaction in Chennai on Thursday showed celebrities, including actors Sibi Raj, Jeyam Ravi and Mumtaz, and three other celebrities, as part of the contestants at the show. Hostess Khushboo has proved to be a big hit with the Tamil audiences and as many testimonials came in for her costumes as for the trivia that cropped up in the show.

K P Sunil, Vice-President (News), Jaya TV, said, “We want it to be easy and at the same time, interesting. It is not to test the ignorance of viewers but to test their knowledge.”

Murali Raaman, Vice-President, Programming and Operations, added, “The whole idea is to sustain the interest of the viewing public. They need to be able to relate to what is being asked on screen and attempt answering those questions sitting in their homes.”

The 150th episode of Jack Pot, the only award winner in the regional game show category, will hit the screens via Jaya TV on July 24 at 8:00 pm.

And that’s not all. The channel will be unveiling another game show soon. While further details are not known, it is learnt that the new show will be targeted at the youth. This would complement Jack Pot, which is targeted primarily at women folk.
