Isaiaruvi TV to telecast Tamil Music Awards 2008 on July 25-26

Isaiaruvi, the music channel from Kalaignar TV, will telecast the first ever Tamil Music Awards ceremony in two special two-hour episodes on July 25-26 at 8 pm. The Tamil Music Awards 2008, organised by Social Media in association with Isaiaruvi, were held in Chennai on July 5.

With the theme of ‘Celebrating excellence in music’, the Sunfeast Tamil Music Awards 2008 payed a tribute to the most popular songs and albums of the year in all spectrums of music ranging from Tamil music to Cinema to Carnatic music and Folk.

AR Rahman was adjudged the best music director for the film ‘Sivaji’, while SP Balasubramaniam and Chitra won the best playback singer award for male and female, respectively.

The Legends Awards for Carnatic music went to Lalgudi Jayaraman and Vikku Vinayagaram. MS Viswanathan and TK Ramamurthy were felicitated with the Life Time Achievement Award.

The function was studded with performances by southern actresses Simran and Meghna Naidu. Shruti Hassan, daughter of actor and director Kamal Hassan, gave her first ever live performance at the Awards ceremony.

Commenting on the event, Sujit Kumar, Director, Social Media, said, “The on-ground event was a huge success with a great turnout of celebrities from the music and film fraternity. The on-air promos had generated a lot of interest and curiosity among the viewers, we are confident that this first of its kind initiative will deliver the desired results on air too.”
