IPL4: Ratings of three matches in; game begins well for MAX

TAM Sports data for Indian Premier League (IPL), season 4, shows that the inaugural match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders has rated 7.14 TVR in the all India market for CS4+. The number is much higher than the previous inaugural matches. Last year, the inaugural match had rated 5.9 (Deccan Chargers vs Kolkata Knight Riders).

MAX officials informed that 55.8 million watched the first match, as compared to IPL 2010 that reached 42.6 million viewers. Also, 31 per cent more women and 52 per cent more kids tuned in as compared to last year.

In digital households, the opening match rated 8.9 TVR.

The second and third match numbers for IPL-4 are more modest at 2.39 (Deccan Chargers vs. Rajasthan Royal) and 4.95 (Kochi Tuskers Kerala vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore) – both of which were played on April 9, 2011.

In IPL3, the second match had rated 3.7 (Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals) and the third match rated 5.4 (Kings XI Punjab vs. Delhi Daredevils).

In a prepared statement, Sneha Rajani, Senior Executive Vice President and Business Head, said, “We are extremely ecstatic to see this very encouraging start to the IPL 2011. It’s truly bigger and better than all its previous seasons. The opening match witnessed a great contest and I’m confident that this will be another phenomenal year for the IPL as the tournament progresses.
