IPL 9: RCB vs Gujarat Lions attracts 27 mn impressions in week 7

The BARC data for Vivo IPL week seven is out but it does not include viewership data of the finals played on May 28 and 29. According to the latest BARC report, the qualifying match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions on May 24 recorded maximum viewership of 27 million impressions across its official broadcasters like Sony Max, Sony Six (SD+HD) and Sony ESPN (SD+HD). This is the highest this match has earned across all the weeks. On Sony Max it garnered 19 million impressions followed by 5 million impressions on Sony Six and 2 million impressions on Sony ESPN. The tournament registered 357 million viewers for that week.

The seventh week got an average of 18 million impressions across all the five channels, 3 million more than last week. Sony Max continued earning the highest average of 13 million impressions followed by sports channels Sony Six (3 million impressions) and Sony ESPN (1.6 million impressions).

The Hindi movie channel Sony MAX ranks second in BARC’s chart under the category ‘Across All Genres’ with 884 million impressions for Week 22 (21-27 May, 2016). Only in Week 20 it topped the chart last week with 944 million impressions. Sun TV still continues to hold the top spot with 965 million impressions.

As usual the pattern of early weekend matches (the one between Rising Pune Supergiants and Kings XI Punjab on May 21 and that between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 22), garnering lower viewership continued.
