India News to launch three Hindi regional channels

After launching its Hindi news channel for Punjab region on September 12, 2011, India News Group is now all set to launch three more Hindi news channels from neighbouring states. By the end of the year 2011, the Group plans to launch Hindi news channel for states including Himachal, Uttar Pradesh/ Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh/ Chhattisgarh. Initially, the newly-launched channels will be available free-to-air on analogue platforms only.

Speaking on the development, Rakesh Sharma, CEO, India News group, said, “We want to have presence in entire Hindi speaking markets of the country. Now, by the end of the year, with the launch of three more channels, we will be able to cover entire Hindi speaking market.”

It can be recalled that after launch of its national Hindi news channel in 2008, in the September 2009, group had launched a channel for Haryana. In October, 2010, the group launched Bihar/Jharkhand channel, followed by a launch of India News Rajasthan in May this year.
Sharma further said that the performance of the channels we had launched recently has been encouraging. “As per the viewership data, we have been doing good in most of the markets with sustained viewership numbers,” he stated.

For marketing and promotion of the channel, the group is leveraging various media platforms. Sharma said, “For the launch of the new channels, we are working on very cost effective model.”
The group is also planning to enter into the English news channel genre. Also, going forward, group will launch a Hindi GEC channel in 2012.

It is pertinent to mention here that as group readies for expansion, it has appointed Narendra Tripathi as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its broadcasting division. He replaces Rajiv Mishra, who had joined the group in February this year. Meanwhile, Arun Agarwal has been brought on board as Chief Finance Officer (CFO), for both broadcast and print division of the group.
