IBF becomes party to Kantar case in Delhi HC

In a latest development in the ongoing case against Kantar Media Research in the New Delhi High Court, the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) has also joined the case against the company.

Highly placed sources have confirmed the news to exchange4media. According to the sources, IBF has stressed that the points that had been raised by the Government earlier this year, regarding the media ratings system, should be implemented soon.

The matter was raised in the last hearing in the case and the High Court will take this into account in the next hearing on August 26, 2014.

Hearing in the Kantar Media Research case pertaining to cross media holding in TV research agency TAM Media on July 11, 2014 was adjourned yet again, with August 26 ruled as the next date for hearing.

The hearing was adjourned after Justice Manmohan was informed that the new Government is yet to appoint an advocate who would argue on behalf of the Government.

With this adjournment, the stay on the clauses of the TV rating agency guidelines regarding cross-media ownership will remain in effect and TAM will continue to function until a final judgement is given.

Hearing in the Kantar case was earlier adjourned by the Delhi High Court till July 11, 2014 as the Government counsel was not available for the hearing on March 6, 2014.

It may be recalled that in the hearing on February 12, 2014, the Delhi High Court had ordered a stay on the clauses related to cross-media ownership, which avoided the situation of a ratings blackout by keeping TAM functional.

Moreover, Kantar was given more time to fulfill the requirements of the other clauses of the TV rating agency guidelines.
