Genre Check: Hindi GECs – Star Plus, Colors begin year on a high note

The first week’s ratings of the new TAM panel are here. The industry is still grappling with what the overall impact of new panel would be, given the fact that the second phase of the new panel would be active only by week 6 of the year. The new markets like Maharashtra below class one towns, Bihar and Assam would be added only in the second leg of the update.

Hindi GECs have scored better than what the ratings of the last week were, even though the two panel numbers cannot be compared directly. These are the yearend ratings for the channels of week beginning December 28, 2008. The all-day GRPs of the genre have increased from 1,105 GRPs last week to 1,164 GRPs this week.

Star Plus begins the year with a massive high of 305 GRPs, an up from the 295 GRPs in the old panel numbers last week. Colors has begun the year with one of its highest scores of 256 GRPs, last week the channel had 255 GRPs. Zee TV has dropped from the 191 GRPs last week and is at 188 GRPs this week.

Sony Entertainment Television, on the other hand, has grown from the 81 GRPs last week and is at 126 GRPs this week. Star One has dropped from 80 GRPs to 76 GRPs. NDTV Imagine has moved from 65 GRPs to 69 GRPs.

Sahara One is at 49 GRPs from the 45 GRPs that it had last week. SAB has moved from 46 GRPs to 48 GRPs, while 9X is at 42 GRPs.
