From underinvestment in talent to reiteration on STAR family – Paul Aiello addresses STAR India

A new phase has begun in STAR India. Paul Aiello, acting CEO of STAR India, arrived in India on January 23 and addressed all STAR officials across five meetings. However, if the officials had attended the meetings expecting some details on the plans ahead for STAR, they’d have been disappointed. Aiello was clear that these meetings were about restoring employee faith in STAR again.

Aiello not only introduced himself to the STAR staff at these meetings, but also encouraged them to include him in their daily work. He assured them that till a CEO was in place, he would be spending much more time in India. It is learnt that he said at these meetings, “I won’t be here once a week or once a month – you’d be surprised how much time I would be spending here.”

One of the points that he made was that STAR recognised that there had been underinvestment in talent in India leading to a situation of being short-staffed. He assured that this would be one of the areas that would be tackled going forward.

Sources informed that Aiello also expressed disappointment over media reports on the recent happenings in STAR. He urged his staff not to “believe in what you read in the press. STAR is one family. I know you would be perplexed and confused right now, but don’t worry”.

The meetings were attended by most STAR key officials – Paritosh Joshi, Shailja Kejriwal and so on.

Aiello also had a meeting with the senior management where various questions were raised on the plans ahead, plans for the newly launched departments, tackling communication, changes that could be in the new structure and so on. However, right now, Aiello didn’t have answers to many of these questions.

That said, STAR officials have been patient for a long time now and they are still waiting to hear something significant before they can decide whether life in STAR would be normal again. In all fairness, STAR India officials already do like Aiello and most of them agreed that he had a sense of humour as well. Over the course of the next few days, more concrete plans would be divulged on the STAR structure and the new management.
