Flashed yesterday: Republic tweets victory, channel opens at 52% share

Republic TV topped the English News category registering 2.1 million impressions in its first week according to Broadcast Audience Research Council of India data for Week 19 (May 6-12).

Times Now came in second with 1.1 million impressions, in comparison the channel had registered 0.6 million impressions in Week 18. NDTV 24x7 came in third with 0.352 million impressions while India Today Television registered 0.35 million impressions. CNN News 18 came in at the fifth spot   with 0.315 million impressions.

Earlier in the day, Republic TV on Twitter had said that the channel garnered 51.9% of eyeballs in the first week of its launch according to Broadcast Audience Research Council of India data shared with paid subscribers.

The tweet said that according to BARC Data for Week 19 (May 6 - 12) (All India 1mn+) Republic TV garnered 51.8% of the viewership while Times Now registered 24.5%, India Today was at 8.1%,  NDTV claimed 6.9%, CNN News18 got 6.64%, and News X 1.78%.

Earlier in the day, Exchange4media has reported that the News Broadcasters Association (NBA), Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) will release Republic TV ratings later today. Earlier, NBA President Ashish Bagga had written to BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta requesting him to withhold the ratings of the new channel. Accusing Arnab Goswami’s network of running on multiple feeds, NBA had urged BARC to refrain from aiding and abetting the malpractice.

Republic TV took pride on Twitter in being “Bigger than all other English news channels put together.”
