Kartikeya Sharma’s ITV Network has roped in Ashit Kukian to bolster the network’s revenues and provide a fresh impetus to NewsX, the company’s flagship English news channel. Designated as COO of NewsX, Kukian will additionally function as the revenue head for its multiple news channels except for India News. The Mumbaikar joins ITV Network from Times Network where he was President – Revenue.
Previously, Kukian was at the helm of affairs at Radio City for ten years as President & COO. In his first stint with Times Network, he was a part of Zoom’s launch team. Interestingly, while ITV Network lost its editorial leads Rahul Shivshankar and Hector Kenneth Kumar to Times Network post Arnab Goswami’s exit, the coming onboard of Kukian from Times will serve as a sort of redemption for ITV Network.
In March, Nikhil Gandhi replaced Kukian as revenue head at Times Network. The profile of both Gandhi and Kukian is critical considering the beat down which media companies underwent as a result of demonetisation. As per the Pitch Madison Advertising Report – 2017, television lost an estimated Rs 850 crore of advertising money last year due to the sucking out of cash from the market.
