To honour excellence in the Punjabi music industry, ETC Channel has announced Punjabi Music Awards 2004. The annual awards will cover 24 different categories of the music industry from singing, writing, composing to choreography and music video direction.
The award categories range from Best Pop Vocalist to Pop Album, Folk-Pop Singer, Video, to Best Religious Album. Categories like Best Non Resident Indian Singer and Best International Punjabi Album are also included. The awards will also recognise the Best Music Director, Lyricist, Choreographer, Recording (Technical) and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Rabindra Narayan, President, ETC Channel Punjabi says, “Punjabi music is now a world wide rage. More Punjabi albums are released every month than any other language. More Punjabi singers go abroad to entertain the world with Punjabi music than any other language singers. It is high time that the creators of this exquisite brand of music be honoured with an award which has the respect of the entire industry.”

The award ceremony will showcase the best of the Punjabi music industry. Names of the winners will be announced from sealed envelopes. The on-ground ceremony at Jalandhar features live performances by some of the biggest names in the business in India, U.K. and Pakistan. Anchored by witty firebrand Navjot Siddhu and Sunita, it will be broadcast live on ETC Channel Punjabi and Alpha TV Punjabi on Saturday, February 21, 2004 from 7.00 p.m. to more than a 100 countries around the world.
The selection procedure for the awards is modelled on the lines of international awards of repute in which the general public and an elite panel of judges jointly select the winners.
The nominees will be publicised through ETC channel Punjabi, Alpha TV Punjabi and the press. The viewers will then be asked to cast their votes through SMS or a form in newspapers, websites and product packs. The panel of judges will cast their individual votes. The total votes collected will be given equal points between Judges and Viewers’ votes and a final tally will be recorded.
