ESPN-STAR Sports to air new series, ‘Born to Play’, from April 13

Soccer fans the world over are eagerly waiting for the FIFA World Cup, which begins in June. In order to build up the excitement further, ESPN-STAR Sports has come up with a new series, ‘Born to Play’ on World Cup legends starting April 13. The 13 episode special series, which will be telecast Monday-Friday at 9:30 pm, will feature legends that this game has produced over the years.

‘Born to Play’ will feature some of the best soccer talent the sport has seen. “The series is in continuance with our objective to offer the Indian audiences a part of the golden heritage of FIFA World Cup through a range of high quality and absorbing programming. The programme is a tribute to the legends of the game and ESPN-STAR Sports takes pride to be a part of this initiative,” said R C Venkateish, Managing Director, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd.

The new series will highlight the achievements and laurels of soccer stars like Pele, Diego Maradona, Roberto Baggio, Michel Platini and Franz Beckenbauer, among others.

To upsurge the pre-event hype for the FIFA World Cup 2006, the channel has announced various programming and production initiatives months before the action kicks off in June in Germany. The broadcaster will build extensive on air FIFA programming to generate viewer interest.

Elaborating on ESPN-STAR Sports’ FIFA programming for the coming months, Venkateish said, “To further popularise the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, we have unveiled special programming around FIFA starting this April till the World Cup finals.”

The FIFA programming will include series on some of the most amazing FIFA World Cup stories. The programming will also include a histories series profiling 20 of the most successful nations in World Cup football. Closer to the World Cup, the channel will feature FIFA preview series providing lead up to 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany.
