English entertainment channels line up interesting fare for August

“The damn disease is spreading, it’s a movie virus out there,” sighs Gitanjali Murari, Programming Head, PIX. August is going to be a movie lover’s delight in the line-up of various English movie and general entertainment channels are anything to go by.

PIX, SET’s English movie channel, is showcasing movies from different genres to keep their viewers interested through the remaining part of the monsoon. The channel will showcase action and adventure flicks like ‘Money Train’, ‘The Great Train Robbery’ and ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’ on Perfect 10.

Viewers will get a chance to meet Johnny Depp on ‘Inside the actors Studio’ on August 6, followed by ‘Thunderbolt’ and ‘Lightfoot’ on PIX of the Week. The channel will air ‘The Drunken Master’ on Cheap Thrills Friday and scare the wits out of everyone with ‘Night of the Living Dead’ on August 11.

On the Independence Day, PIX will showcase popular flicks like ‘The Magnificent Seven’, ‘Steel Magnolias’, ‘My Best Friends Wedding’ and ‘Sleepless in Seattle’, among others.

English movie channel HBO is also coming up with an array of films throughout August. The channel will show case movies like ‘Hitch’, ‘Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous’ and ‘Exorcist: The Beginning’, among others.

A slot named ‘Party of 5’ will have two back-to-back movies featuring five of Hollywood’s leading movie stars every Wednesday starting 9 pm on HBO. These include Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Eraser’ and ‘Last Action Hero’, Orlando Bloom’s ‘Troy’ and ‘The Calcium Kid’, Julia Roberts in ‘Conspiracy Theory’ and ‘The Pelican Brief’, Angelina Jolie in ‘Sky Captain’, ‘The World of Tomorrow’ and ‘The Bone Collector’, and Jet Li in ‘Lethal Weapon 4’ and ‘Romeo Must Die’.

This year HBO also returns with the Asian TV premiere of the Emmy Award winning and Golden Globe Award nominated series ‘HUFF 2’.

STAR World is also bringing in new shows and new seasons of popular shows. Starting on August 3 is ‘The Office’, inspired by the British hit of the same name. Another new series, which premieres on August 24, is ‘Sons & Daughters.’

The others in the line-up include a supernatural thriller ‘Ghost Whisperer’ and family comedy ‘Two and a Half Men’.

This August also sees the return of shows like ‘Law & Order S.V.U.’, ‘Growing up Gotti’ and ‘Rockstar: Supernova’ with new seasons.
