It was a gathering of the best of the best of India’s news television industry and a celebration of those who have made a mark in this industry and have become household names at the exchange4media Indian News Broadcasting Awards (eINBA) 2010, held in Delhi on September 1. Salman Khurshid and Rajeev Shukla were among the prominent political faces present at the awards ceremony. exchange4media spoke to the award winners to share their excitement over being the chosen ones.
Kalanidhi Maran, Chairman and Managing Director, Sun TV Network, was conferred the News Television Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 Award.
Rajdeep Sardesai was inducted into The Hall of Fame for Continuing Contribution to Industry (Professional). On winning the prestigious award, Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, IBN18 Network, and President of Editors Guild of India, said, “It feels good to be recognised for what you have done over the couple of decades rather than for one or two years. I have always believed that journalism is a life-long passion. I have been fortunate enough that I was there when the industry was growing. It’s not only about me, but it is about the people whom I work with. I am fortunate to have worked with great people over the last 22 years. I hope that in coming years, e4m INB Awards will also recognise ethical standards and challenges of journalism.” He also congratulated the exchange4media Group for continuing to do a great job.
G Krishnan was adjudged News Television CEO of the Year 2010. Reacting to the win, Krishnan, CEO, TV Today, said, “This Award means that you have to be more responsible and more accountable in what you do. It increases the need to be more creative in what you do. I would like to thank my team, without them I wouldn’t have got this Award. exchange4media is doing great job by recognising people from the news industry and the e4m INBA will go from strength to strength. It will inspire a lot of youth who work in the news business.”
Barkha Dutt was conferred the News Television Editor-in-Chief of the Year 2010 – English Award. On receiving the Award, Dutt, Group Editor, NDTV, said, “These Awards really mean a lot to us, because there is so much debate over the standard of television journalism, and I think by giving us and recognising me as Editor-in-Chief, gives me a strength to believe in our core principles, which is the old fashion journalism and it should be the old fashion way of storytelling. I thank the exchange4media Group and the Jury for this Award. I hope the e4m INBA continues to set benchmark of excellence for journalism and continues to push us harder towards excellence.”
Shazi Zaman received the News Television Editor-in-Chief of the Year 2010 – Hindi Award. Zaman, Editor, MCCS, said, “This is a recognition for those people who believe in straight, fearless and fair journalism. This is recognition for our entire team, who made it possible. I wish that more people will get inspired by the e4m INBA and they will follow the genuine way of journalism.”
Sanjay Pugalia and Nidhi Kulpati jointly received the News Show Host of the Year 2010 – Hindi. Sanjay Pugalia, who is with CNBC Awaaz, received the Award for the programme ‘Awaaz Union Budget’. On winning the Award, he said, “CNBC Awaaz has taken business news in Hindi into the mainstream of news on business. CNBC Awaaz has widened its reach and was able to attract viewers and I thank my organisation for that. I wanted to work with three people in this media industry – SP Singh, TN Ninan and Vinod Mehta. And I am privileged that today I have got selected for this Award by the Jury team, which was chaired by Vinod Mehta. It is a great occasion for me.”
NDTV India’s Nidhi Kulpati won the award for the show ‘India 9 Baje’ On winning the Award, she said, “This Award means a lot to me. It inspires me to keep moving ahead and keep on working with enthusiasm.”
Aaj Tak’s Sorbojeet Chatterjee received the Young Professional of the Year 2010 (Business) Award. Reacting to the win, he said, “This Award is very encouraging. I believe any professional is as good as the opportunity he gets. It’s Mr Krishnan who had always led by example, and my team and TV Today, who have made it possible. I hope TV Today continues to win a lot more awards. I wish that e4m INBA continues to grow. It is good that industry has its own sets of awards.”
Paulami Saha of Headlines Today received the Young Professional of the Year 2010 (Journalist) Award. On winning the Award, she said, “It is a huge encouragement for me and my team. I dedicate this Award to the assignment team, the reporting team, the output team and to all others who have made an effort towards winning this Award.”
STAR News’ Siddharth Sharma won the Award for Sports News Anchor of the Year 2010 - Hindi for the show ‘Wah Cricket’. He said, “I dedicate this Award to my team. We are a crazy bunch of people always ready to work. Recognition matters a lot, and this is a recognition of the kind of work that we do. People like our programmes and this Award proves that. I am hoping that in the fourth edition of e4m INBA, there will be addition of regional media as well. I wish that e4m INBA grows by leaps and bounds.”
Anubha Bhosle of CNN-IBN was adjudged News Reporter of the Year 2010 – English for the show ‘A Few Good Women’. Reacting to the win, she said, “This is an indication of the entire team’s efforts. This Award is for all the people of my team who work relentlessly and perhaps not on camera. Full marks to e4m INBA; the Jury has been extremely fair and credible. I wish the Awards would continue in all fairness. I wish luck to e4m INBA.”
NDTV 24x4’s Nidhi Razdan, won the Award for News Show Host of the Year 2010 – English for the show ‘Left, Right & Centre’. She said, “It’s really an honour when your work gets recognised in any field whether it is reporting or anchoring. Thanks a lot to the jury and the e4m INBA will surely make one do better.”
Tina Sharma of Headlines Today was adjudged Sports News Anchor of the Year 2010 – English. On winning the Awards, she said, “I am really grateful for this Award, it recognises individuality. Each news anchors has his/ her own style and it feels really good to be appreciated. I thank the Jury and the exchange4media Group for this Award. I wish e4m INBA gets bigger and better as the news broadcast industry grows.”
Rouf Ahmed Roshangar of Aaj Tak won the Award for News Videographer of the Year 2010 – Hindi. He said, “I have been working for the last one decade and this is the first time that I have got professional recognition. It is a great moment for me. I am thankful to the exchange4media Group and my organisation.”
Best Promo of a Programme/Channel 2010 – Hindi Award went to IBN7 Team for the programme ‘Zindagi Live – Season 3’. On receiving the Award, the IBN7 Team said, “This Award goes to the entire team. Thanks a lot to the Jury. We expect to win more awards for our work in the future.”
NDTV India’s Nita Sharma, was given the News Reporter of the Year 2010 – Hindi Award for ‘MHA Beat’. She said, “I was a print journalist, but NDTV taught me all the skills of TV reporting.”
Best News Documentary of the Year 2010 – English went to the NewsX Team for ‘On Thin Ice’. On receiving the Award, the NewsX Team said, “It is a classic case of dream comes true. When we went for the assignment, little did we know that it will culminate with this Award. We would like to thank our Editor, Jehangir Pocha. When we went to the Arctic, which was a really great experience. The camera would run out of battery every 30 minutes. The entire process was challenging, but a great experience for us.”
Best Live Programming of the Year 2010 – English Awad went to the News9 Team for ‘The Burning Carlton’. On winning the Award, the News9 Team said, “It’s a wonderful moment for all News9 channel members because they have done something which country has recognised. We thank e4m INBA for the Award, which means a lot not only to us but for the people of Bangalore too. By recognising and appreciating the people of the Indian news broadcasting industry, e4m INBA has done a great job.”
