Dr Subhash Chandra, the chairman of Essel Group of Companies, was elected to the Rajya Sabha today in a closely contested election held in seven states.

The ruling BJP party has backed Dr Chandra for his Rajya Sabha berth. He contested the election as an independent candidate from Haryana.
