Doordarshan to telecast Asian Games live

Doordarshan will telecast Asian Games 2002 live from South Korea on its DD Sports channel between September 29 and October 14. Round the clock daily live coverage will be telecast between 5.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. after which there will be deferred live or recorded telecast.

The fortnight long coverage will begin with the live telecast of the opening ceremony on DD2 from 14.30 hours to 16.30 hours with simulcast on DDSports. DD1 will carry the recorded telecast from 23.00 hrs to 01.00 hrs or immediately after the cricket telecast, DD1 will carry live games telecasts from September 30 to October 4 and October 6, October 11 and October 13 between 2.30 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. with simulcast on DDSports. On October 5 and 12 the live games telecast on DD1 will be between 3.30 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. with simulcast on DDSports. Closing ceremony will be beamed live on DD1 on October 14 from 15.30 hrs to 16.50 hrs with simulcast on DDSports.

The daily one-hour highlights of Asian Games will be telecast on DD1 between September 29 and October 14, between 23.30 hrs and 00.30 hrs and next morning on DD2 between 08.00 hrs and 09.00 hrs. There will also be 30 minutes India specific highlights on DD1 between 8 and 8.30 a.m. from October 1 to October 15.

Doordarshan will be doing in-house marketing of the event which will cost it about Rs 5 crores in term of telecast right cost, opportunity cost and technical cost.
