Television viewers are in for a big treat as Doordarshan, for the first time, has lined up a film festival of Raj Kapoor’s films on DD1. The Sunday afternoon film bonanza, sponsored by Dabur, begins from August 8 with old hit ‘Aag’ featuring Raj Kapoor and Nargis. The five-month-long film festival will bring alive the golden era of Indian films showcasing the best works of the ‘Showman of the Millennium’.

Among the Raj Kapoor gems to hit the tube, there will be films like ‘Awara’, ‘Barsaat’, ‘Shree 420’, ‘Mera Naam Joker’ along with internationally acclaimed classics like ‘Boot Polish’ and ‘Jagte Raho’. Films like ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, ‘Prem Rog’, ‘Heena’ and ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ – made by the maestro during his sunset years will also be in the bouquet, while box office hits like ‘Sangam’, ‘Bobby’, ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’ will be major highlights of the Raj Kapoor film festival on Doordarshan.

The Raj Kapoor retrospective, to be presented by actor Kanwaljeet, will end on December 26 with RK Films’ ‘Aa Aab Laut Chale’, directed by Rishi Kapoor. In all, the film festival will showcase 21 musical hits of Raj Kapoor.
