Doordarshan to empanel private producers for news and current affairs programmes

Doordarshan will soon be inviting proposals for the empanelment of private producers for news and current affairs programmes. The move follows Prasar Bharati Corporation board's decision to open up commissioned programming on Doordarshan. News and current affairs wing at the Doordarshan headquarters and the Kendras would prepare a panel of producers after examining their credentials in terms of track record, number of programmes produced etc. For this, an open announcement through the media will be made to invite proposals for the empanelment.

The empanelment would be done by Evaluation Committee at the Doordarshan headquarters and kendras. The Evaluation Committee at the headquarters will comprise of Additional Director General / Deputy Director General of the concerned channel, DDG (Sales and Marketing), ADG / DDG of other channels, Director of Programme (Central Commissioning Unit), Director of Programme of concerned channel, three outside experts including a lady of repute from the fields of production, performing arts, broadcasting, journalism and literature.

At the Doordarshan Kendras, the Evaluation Committee will consist of Chief Producer, Deputy Director (Programmes) / Executive Producer, Station Engineer, Programme Officer incharge of Commissioning, Programme Officer incharge of the subject and three outside experts including a woman.

The Evaluation Committee would grade the producers and classify them according to their experience, specialisation expertise etc. According to Doordarshan sources, the purpose of empaneling private producers is to ensure that a producer of a specialised genre is available at a very short notice for production of news and current affairs programmes.
