Doordarshan’s public service programme, ‘Kalyani’, nominated for Swiss TV award

Doordarshan’s popular health magazine programme – ‘Kalyani’ – funded by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, has been nominated for the prestigious Swiss TV award, Rose D’or, popularly known as the Television Oscars. Last year, ‘Kalyani’ had won the Common Wealth Broadcasting Association’s reputed Gates Malaria Award in the public service category.

It is a rare honour for Doordarshan that a social awareness category programme like ‘Kalyani’ has been nominated for the Rose D’or Award in the entertainment category.

Usha Bhasin, In-charge Deputy Director General of Development Communication Division of Doordarshan told Exchange4media, “It is a big achievement for us that ‘Kalyani’ is in the league of prestigious programmes like ‘Seasame’ and ‘Treat of USA’ from top broadcasters from 28 countries for the Swiss award.”

‘Kalyani’ has been on air on DD1 for the last three years. This 30-minute programme is aired thrice a week. Bhasin further said that the Health Ministry was extending its contract for ‘Kalyani’ for one more year, commiting a yearly budget of Rs 19 crore. The MoU to this effect will be signed on October 23, 2005.
