The verdict is out on the much-hyped Diwali race between HBO and Star Movies. HBOs move to slot Gladiator a day after Diwali doesn’t seem to have brought the huge expected returns with the movie just managing to nudge out Sixth Sense on Star Movies in driving audience.
Latest data released by TAM India shows Gladiator just managing to nudge out Sixth Sense in the seven key markets (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkatta, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bangalore). Sixth Sense garnered TVRs of 0.78% across these five markets as against 1.09% scored by Gladiator. Though Gladiator was a much bigger movie in terms of profile and the awards it had won but a Tuesday screening of the movie possibly eroded some of the potential viewer ship.
Chart below shows the ratings across cities. While Bangalore, Calcutta and Chennai seem to be hooked on to HBO, the larger two important market, Delhi and Mumbai show a clear preference for Star Movies.
