Discovery Network is all set for some action in 2010. As Rahul Johri, Senior VP and GM, India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said, “We are packed for the whole year. Some more new programmes will be launched. We will also see some new channel launch. We will continue with the ‘Grooming Shows’ and will also introduce some ‘Relationship Shows’ this year.”
Johri further said, “Digitally also we are cracking good. We believe in quality more than quantity. We may produce less, but all are high quality products.”
As part of its new programme strategy, Discovery is launching a new series on Shah Rukh Khan. The 10-part series, called ‘Living With a Superstar’, will premiere on Discovery Travel & Living on February 26 and will be aired on Fridays at 9 pm. The channel has commissioned Blue Mango Films and Red Chillies to produce the series.
Speaking at a press meet on January 7, 2010, Johri said, “With this groundbreaking series on superstar Shah Rukh Khan, we are surpassing all established definitions of lifestyle entertainment. We are extremely excited at this opportunity to work with Khan and to provide his fans and millions of viewers around the world with uninhibited access to his life, for the first time ever.”
“This documentary was shot in high quality and it took almost one year to shoot it. It is shot in India and all across the globe with Khan and is the most expensive production till date,” he added.
Launched in October 2004, Discovery Travel & Living claims to have grown 33 per cent in 2009 as compared to 2008. In 2009, the channel was quite active, launching travel series like ‘Rough Guides’, ‘Walking the World’ and ‘Things to Try Before You Die’, besides programmes like ‘Fitness Fusion’.
