DD sets up advisory committee on health programmes, New health shows on the anvil

Doordarshan has constituted an advisory committee for the health programming on its network. The committee headed by eminent cardiac surgeon, Prof. Venugopal of AIIMS, with Dr. K.K. Aggarwal of Heart Care Foundation as its convenor, will be giving valuable inputs on health related programming on the public broadcasting network.

The advisory panel is expected to play a significant role for the newly launched DD Bharati Channel, which is focusing on health related programmes. Doordarshan mandarins are working overtime to mount a variety of health programmes on their network. The prominent among these is 'Health Online', a one - hour live show on DD Bharati. This phone-in-programme with live audience and an expert panel, will provide health counseling to viewers. The channel will also be airing a health quiz. All these programmes are being made in-house.

Health programs and support to them from advertisers on both TV and Radio has gone up in the recent times. This can be attributed to the fact that the Fast Moving Health Goods (FMHG) category has seen tremendous growth and new entrants like Dr. Morepen. Dr. Morepen also currently sponsors a show on Radio (102.6 FM) called Non Stop Zindagi and is reportedly in discussion to bring on a similar health show on satellite television and is currently in close discussions with a leading TV channel. DD's initiative in this light acquires significance and possibly a step in the right direction. It would interesting to see how DD actually conceptualizes, executes and gets sponsors for this novel initiative so as to contribute to DD's financial health!
