DD channels' viewership surges 15x as nation celebrates 68th Republic Day: BARC @ Week 4

As the nation celebrated its 68th Republic Day on Thursday (January 26), news channels across genres witnessed a spike in viewership as the telecast of the Republic Day parade down Rajpath kept audiences glued to the TV screens, according to data released by BARC for Week 4.  

While Doordarshan channels across India saw viewership rise 15 per cent to 7554 impressions ‘000s over its four week average of 499 impressions ‘000s, its viewership base across Hindi speaking markets grew 14 per cent to 6348 impressions ‘000s as against its four-week average of 446 impressions’000s.

Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal’s epic semi final win over Grigor Dimitrov and Roger Federer slamming Stan Wawrinka to reach the finals of the Australian Open 2017 improved the viewership ratings for Sony Six (SD+HD) significantly. While the first semi final between Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka garnered 122 impressions ‘000s, 3.4 times over its previous four week average of 36 impressions ‘000s, the second semi final featuring Rafael Nadal versus Grigor Dimitrov spurred the channel’s viewership four times to 135 impressions’000s as against its four week average of 34 impressions’000s.

The world television premiere of “MS Dhoni – The Untold Story” on Star Plus saw the channel’s viewership across Hindi speaking markets surge more than 5.1 times. While the previous four week average stood at 1432 impressions ‘000s, the telecast of the movie catapulted the viewership to 7327 impressions’000s.

Whereas the world television premiere of “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” on Colors improved the channel’s viewership 2.4 times in the Hindi speaking markets. The channel recorded 3272 impressions’000s as against its four week average of 1337 impressions’000s.

Season 2 of Priyanka Chopra’s hit American series Quantico improved the viewership of Star World 9.8 times on Tuesday (January 24). In week 4, the channel’s viewership witnessed 16.3 impressions’000s versus its four week average of 1.7 impressions’000s.
