CSK brings in higher viewership than IPL’s average viewership

The two IPL teams that face suspension for two years i.e. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have generated some of the highest viewership during the 8 seasons of IPL. According to data from TAM Sports All India CS 4+ from live matches of IPL, CSK has always managed to get viewership which is above the average IPL match viewership every season, while RR comes close to the average IPL viewership.

In IPL 1 both CSK and RR scored ratings of 4.9 TVRs which is above the average of IPL of 4.8 ratings. In IPL 2 however CSK beat the average of 4.2 TVRs by getting ratings of 4.4 TVRs, while RR was at 3.9 TVRs. IPL 3 had average ratings of 4.6 TVRs and the teams CSK had 4.6 TVRs while RR had 4.0 TVRs. IPL 4 had seen CSK again beat the IPL viewership average of 3.4 TVRs with a ratings of 3.7 TVRs, while RR got average ratings of 3.1 TVRs. IPL 5 saw CSK get average ratings of 4.0 TVRs and RR 3.0 TVRs, while the average was 3.4 TVRs. IPL 6 saw CSK get ratings of 3.6 TVRs and RR 2.9 TVRs, while the average stood at 3.0 TVRs. IPL 7 had CSK ratings yet again beat the average viewership of 3.1 TVRs with viewership of 3.5 TVRs and RR stood at 2.8 TVRs. IPL 8 average viewership was at 3.8 TVRs and CSK got a viewership of 4.2 TVRs and RR 3.7 TVRs. 

In season 1 CSK had 3 matches which scored a high viewership of 5.9 TVRs vs. Delhi Daredevils, 6.5 TVRs vs. Mumbai Indians and in the final match scored 9.0 TVRs vs. Rajasthan Royals. RR scored high ratings in two matches one being the finals vs. CSK and the other against Delhi Daredevils scoring 6.3 TVRs.

Similarly in IPL season 2, CSK had two high viewership matches while RR had 3 high viewership matches. The top for CSK being the match versus Royal Challengers Bangalore which scored 5.6 TVRs and the top for RR being the against Kolkata Knight Riders scoring 5.4 TVRs.

IPL 3 saw CSK gain critical viewership in 3 matches and RR in 1 match. The final match between CSK and Mumbai Indians got viewership of 10.6 TVRs. The RR match with Mumbai Indians too was one of the most viewed with ratings of 5.9 TVRs.
IPL4 had seen only CSK gain a critical viewership with four matches being most viewed. The highest ratings 7.0 TVRs was received by the team for its first match with Kolkata Knight Riders.  

IPL 5 had CSK gain large viewership in 4 matches and RR in one match. The final match between CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders got a good viewership of 8.9 TVRs.

IPL 6 saw CSK get good viewership in 6 matches and RR in one match. This too was a final between CSK and Mumbai Indians which got ratings of 5.4 TVRs.

IPL 7 saw CSK get high viewership in 4 matches and RR in two matches. The CSK match with Kings XI Punjab was one of the most viewed matches with ratings of 6.2 TVRs.

Finally, IPL 8 got CSK high viewership in 6 matches and RR in one match. The final match of CSK versus Mumbai Indians got ratings of 7.4 TVRs.
