CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2008 kicks off

CNN-IBN is all set to conduct the much awaited ‘CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2008 in partnership with Hindustan Times’ for the third time. Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, IBN18 Network said, “CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards have evolved to a significant stature, recognising the outstanding contributions of the Indians in various categories. This initiative is an attempt on our behalf to create one of the most-sought after and prestigious titles to be bestowed on an Indian. We have received excellent responses cutting across all sections of people for our awards in the past and this year also we are sure to celebrate accomplishments across fields and that extraordinary feeling of Indianness.”

‘CNN-IBN Indian of the Year’ is an award that involves the citizens of the country to participate in every stage from nominations to final award winner. An elaborate four-tier process is consistently followed while selecting the winners. The four-tier process includes the Editorial Board drawing a list of nominees; the Jury ratifies the list on nominees; the Electoral College Votes and the Citizens’ Vote.

After the process has determined the six individual winners of all six categories, the jury members ratify the category winners and then mutually decide who amongst the six would be honoured with ‘CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2008’

Dilip Venkatraman, Convener – CNN-IBN Indian of the Year and CMO – IBN18 Network added, “CNN-IBN Indian of the Year is an editorially driven, transparent exercise which has been accepted for its credibility by all, more so by the nominees and winners. At this juncture of challenges our country faces, the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2008 takes even more significance, as the winners will personify the indomitable spirit of India. We are looking forward to a great show this year as well.”

The nominee announcement process would start on January 12, 2009, and would continue till January 17, 2009.
