CJ Awards honours crusaders of the nation

As the anti-corruption mood sweeps across the nation, the fourth edition of ‘Citizen Journalist Awards’ was held in the Capital on February 13, 2012 to honour the crusaders who are fighting the anomalies of the system to create a corruption free India.

An initiative of CNN-IBN, IBN7 and IBN-Lokmat, the current edition of the ‘CJ Awards’ is in partnership with Idea Cellular Ltd. Actor Vidya Balan was chief guest at the Awards event.

Speaking on the initiative, Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, CNN-IBN, IBN7 & IBN-Lokmat, said, “We at CNN-IBN, IBN7 & IBN-Lokmat salute the citizens of the country who raised their voice against this deep-rooted societal issue of corruption and the fourth edition of ‘Citizen Journalist Awards’ recognises and pays tribute to those who are fighting to root out this malaise from our society.”

In all, 15 CJ Awards were given away:
CJ Parikshit for battling against medical negligence
CJ Vijay Goyal for exposing corruption in computer education
CJ Pradeep Bhatia for battling sale of illicit liquor
CJ Mangla Ram Meghval for exposing corruption in Government schemes
CJ Gaurav Bakshi for saying ‘Bribe Bandh’
Freedom Fighter CJ Daulat Ram for battling for pension
CJ Vijay Pal Singh for exposing corruption in government schools
CJ Shefali Sewak for taking on the parking mafia
CJ R Varshney for refusing to pay a bribe
CJ Payi Gyadi for exposing government job scam in Arunachal
CJ Raghvendra for exposing ticketing scam
CJ Amarnath Pandey for exposing MNREGA scam

Speaking about the award, Ashutosh, Managing Editor, IBN7, said, “We at IBN7 salute the brave citizens who have stood up against the widespread disease of corruption despite several difficulties and have shown the will to initiate a change that will help restructure our country. We are privileged to honour these brave Citizen Journalists through the initiative this year.”

Nikhil Wagle, Editor, IBN-Lokmat, added here, “Citizen Journalist Awards as a platform acknowledges the efforts of the common man, whose fight for a better society has marked a change. In this edition, we are focusing on the initiatives taken by these special individuals to fight out the most prevalent issue in our society today – corruption. These CJs will one day be known as the frontier fighters that helped uproot corruption from our country.”
