Carriage fees adds to NDTV’s loss in Q1 FY13

Carriage fees remain a cause for major concern for the broadcast industry at large. Carriage fees of Rs 31 crore during Q1 FY13 ended June 30, 2012, contributed to the overall loss of Rs 26 crore for NDTV Group.

NDTV Group has reported consolidated revenues of over Rs 100 crore for Q1 DY13. Meanwhile, advertising revenue increased by approx 10 per cent vis-à-vis the same quarter last year. The Group saw significant growth in new revenue streams, resulting in lower dependence on FCT ad revenues.

Cost rationalisation measures are beginning to show results and the Group has been able to contain expenses. NDTV News operations (standalone) have reported a reduction in costs over the same quarter last year.

Revenue of NDTV Convergence, which operates the Internet and mobile business, grew by more than 35 per cent over the same quarter last year. New iPad and Android news app were launched during the quarter. NDTV claims to remain a leader in the apps space in India.
