Budget 2011:  CNBC Awaaz, Aaj Tak lead respective genres

TAM Media Research released data for the Budget Day (February 28) on March 9, 2011. An analysis done by exchange4media reflects that in the Hindi general news channels domain, Aaj Tak has maintained its leadership, while CNBC Awaaz has retained the top raking in the Hindi business news channel domain.

Aaj Tak leads, India TV gains…
As per the TAM Media Research data, for the target C&S 15+, Hindi Speaking Markets, entire day, on February 28, 2011, Aaj Tak captured 20 per cent relative market share in Hindi general news segment. However, Aaj Tak has lost 2 per cent relative market share of the genre this year as compared to Budget day 2010 (February 26).

India TV with a marginal gain was second most watched Hindi general news channel on Budget day. India TV captured 15 per cent market share on the day. Zee News with the loss of 3 per cent relative market share, dropped to third position from second, as compared to Budget day 2010. IBN7 has got 12 per cent market share of the genre and positioned itself at the fourth spot this year.

On the other hand, Star News, which had shared the second position last year with Zee News, has seen a steep decline this year in relative market share. The channel has garnered 12 per cent market share on Budget day this year, a decline of 4 per cent as compared to last year. NDTV India has managed to get 7 per cent market share of the genre on the Budget day. Interestingly, Live India has added 3 per cent market share this year as compared to 2010. News24 too moved up a notch in relative market share and captured 7 per cent share of genre in 2011.

CNBC Awaaz leads, Zee Business loses
According to TAM Media Research, in C&S 15+, all Hindi Speaking Markets, in Hindi business news channel genre, on Budget day (all day), CNBC Awaaz has come up as the undisputed leader. Awaaz has grown with 2 per cent relative market share this year as compared to last year. On the other hand, Zee Business has seen decline of 2 per cent in market share.

On Budget day, CNBC Awaaz acquired a lion’s share of 74 per cent of the genre this year, while Zee Business captured 26 per cent relative market share.
