Broadcasters showcase special programming mix to celebrate Women’s Day

It was time for broadcasters to celebrate womanhood by offering a special line-up of programming mix for the fairer sex on the occasion of Women’s Day. For this year there were the usual romantic movies, special musical shows and marathon of popular woman-centric series.

It’s movie time

English movie channels had women-centric movies in store. For instance, Star Movies Select aired popular romantic comedy ’27 Dresses’ at 5pm. While Romedy Now under its line-up called Sugar & Spice featured movies like ‘Julie & Julia’, ‘What a Girl Wants’, ‘Bedazzled’ and ‘She’s Funny That Way.’

Hindi movie channel Dabangg also had special women-centric movies and ran special contests to celebrate the day.

Entertainment on

English entertainment channel Colors Infinity presented a marathon of ‘Orange is the New Black,’ the popular American comedy-drama series. Comedy Central celebrated the fairer sex by airing the entire series of single-camera comedy drama series, ‘Younger.’

Other English channels like Star World and Star World HD aired back-to-back episodes of ‘New Girl’ Season 4 from 12pmonwards. Not only that, they are extending the celebrations by showcasing the fresh episodes of ‘Quantico’ and ‘Homeland Season 4’ from March 12 and March 18 respectively.

Musical offering

Music channel VH1 had a different treat in the offering as it compiled a list of popular male musicians and boy band like Justin Timberlake and 5 Seconds of Summer as part of their special line up from 10 am. Apart from this its on-ground partners gave out offers like an all-day Happy Hour exclusively for women at Happy Brew in Bangalore, Barking Deer in Mumbai and Fork You in Delhi; 15% off on all services across all the outlets of Jean Claude Biguine and 20% off on select services at all Four Fountain de-stress spas.

English music channel 9XO started celebrating Women’s Day two days prior (March 6) by showcasing a special playlist featuring 30 most sought-after female artistes like Beyonce and Shakira.

Hindi music channel 9XM did a special titled ‘9XM AskTrack’ where they invited viewers to send in their song requests dedicated to the women in their lives, which will be played over here.  

While other players like Mastiii, ran women-centric songs and special contests for its viewers.
