Broadcasters line-up colourful programming mix to celebrate Holi

Broadcasters rarely miss an opportunity to cash in on the festive occasions. With the festival of Holi around, most of the channels have lined up something exclusive ranging from action movies, animations and special shows, while few have taken a different route to raise awareness about saving water. Here’s a look:

Grand celebration

To celebrate the festival Sab TV has arranged for a special event called ‘SAB Ki Holi’ with its entire cast from all the shows on the channel on March 24 at 9 pm. Hosted by popular television personalities like Kiku Sharda and Ali Asgar, there will be grand performance by the channel’s actors, with special acts by rapper Badshah, stand up comedians Sugandha Mishra and Rajiv Thakur.

Early festivities

Life OK already celebrated Holi with leading television actors who were later joined by Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan. It was telecasted on March 20 at 6.30 pm. Zee TV also did something similar with a three-hour special called ‘Holi Ke Rang-Kumkum Bhagya Ke Sang,’ featuring performances by leading television personalities. On Colors, the actresses from its leading shows had a special show to themselves called ‘Rang De Colors’ (aired on March 20) filled with their performances and festivities.

Celebration with a cause

Regional channels like Marathi music channel 9X Jhakaas and Maiboli have taken up an unconventional route. The former is encouraging its viewers to celebrate a waterless Holi, courtesy its mash-up video of hit Marathi numbers. It will also showcase Marathi celebrity bytes requesting people to have a waterless Holi. Maiboli, on the other hand, has come up with a new social campaign, “Pani vachva Jeevan jagva” to raise awareness and promote simple water saving tips.

Holi playlist

Music channel 9X Jalwa will have a special playlist dedicated to the festival where retro and contemporary numbers will be played from 8 am to 10 am and between 9 pm to 10 pm, while Mastiii has created a special called ‘Mastiii Main Rang’ which will play Holi numbers all through the day.

Action and animation

Star World Premiere HD has chosen to run the marathon of a popular musical show ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’, which according to them incorporates the spirit of the festival – love, friendship, music, music, dance and colours on March 24 and 25 from 12 pm onwards. FX and FXHD take a humorous route and plan to play the marathon of ‘Louie’ Season 5 on March 24 from 12 pm. AXN will premiere the season 2 of action series of ‘Transporters’ on March 24 and 25.

Sony Pix will run a special line up of back-to-back animated movies like ‘Stuart Little’, ‘Wreck It Ralph’, ‘The Adventures of Tintin’, ‘Brave’, ‘Ratatouille’ and ‘Bolt’, under its property ‘Madhouse PIXathon’ on March 24 from 9 am onwards.

For kids

For the kids, Discovery Kids has lined up a special episode of its animated show ‘Kisna’ called ‘Bura Na Maano Holi Hai’ at 9 am. Pogo will air a special called ‘Rang Barse’ featuring Chhota Bheem and Mighty Raju on March 27 at 12 and 6 pm while there will be contests on March 24.

Special features

Discovery Channel will premiere a one-hour special called ‘Spirit of India-Holi’ focusing on interesting facts around the festival. It premieres on March 23 at 9 pm. It will also premiere on Discovery Channel, Discovery Tamil and Discovery HD World.
