Bengali music channel Sangeet Bangla on the lookout for VJs

Sangeet Bangla, the 24-hour Bengali music channel, has launched the ‘Sangeet Bangla VJ Hunt’, a two-month long event, which was kicked off in May 2006.

The event will be held in five phases that include road shows, and will culminate in a mega final round. The judges for the event include celebrities drawn from fields like television, cinema, music and the fashion industry. Viewers will also get a chance to vote for the best VJ.

Elaborating on the initiative, Sarbajit Chakraborty, Head-Production, Sangeet Bangla, said, “The VJ Hunt on Sangeet Bangla is the first of its kind in any regional television channel. The purpose is to find the future anchor of the channel. Throughout the process we are involving celebrity judges and viewers for the decision-making. Moreover, the programme is also creating awareness among the aspiring VJs.”

Sangeet Bangla was launched in early 2005 by Shri Venkatesh Films and caters mainly to the Bengali audience. The channel essentially tries to emulate MTV or Channel [v] with a local flavour.
