BCCL focuses on leveraging synergies with ET for forthcoming biz news channel

Times Global Broadcasting Co Ltd, the BCCL venture in the broadcasting space, intends to explore group synergies, particularly with The Economic Times, for its forthcoming English business news channel. The company is still deciding on an Editor for the channel, but it is known that Rahul Joshi, Editor, The Economic Times, would be championing the project in its launch phase. He will work very closely with Times Global’s CEO, Chintamani Rao.

In an internal mail to the BCCL staff, Vineet Jain, Chairman, BCCL, has said, “The company is pleased to announce that Rahul Joshi will champion this project in its launch phase by putting together a highly-talented team and forging synergies between different parts of the organisation, notably convergence with print. As part of his new role, Rahul will also help in shaping content, which we hope will be more incisive and refreshingly different from the existing brands in the market.”

He further stated, “After establishing a leadership position in the English news space, Times Now is poised to replicate its success in business news. It plans to launch an English business channel in the coming months. It is needless to say that this channel will leverage the influence, market dominance and thought leadership of The Economic Times.”

Jain also clarified, “He (Rahul Joshi) will perform this new role for a period of one year, in addition to his current responsibilities as the Executive Editor of The Economic Times. With his strong track record at The Economic Times, Rahul will surely help create a world-class English business channel. He will work closely with Chintamani Rao, Chief Executive Officer, and the yet-to-be-announced Business Editor of the new channel.”

With established players like CNBC TV-18 and NDTV Profit, and with the entrance of new players like UTV News and Times Global’s business news channel, it will be interesting to see how this segment shapes up in the coming months.
