Zee News CEO Barun Das has stepped down after a stint of five years. His next destination is unknown. Alok Agrawal, Ex COO, Cheil will take his place. He joins today.
Agrawal had quit Cheil Worldwide South West Asia in August. He is all set to start his new role at Zee News.
Punit Goenka, Managing Director, Zee News said, “Over last five years, Barun has contributed immensely to the growth of Zee News and taken the company to greater heights. We wish him the best for his future endeavour.”
Speaking on Agrawal’s appointment, Goenka said, “We welcome Alok into the Zee News family. His rich experience in the media domain would help us take Zee News to the next level of growth.”
Prior to his tenure at Zee News, Das worked with Media Content & Communications Services (MCCS) as Executive Vice President. At MCCS, he had various key divisions such as marketing, distribution, research and special projects reporting to him. He also played the role of Business Head of Star Ananda.
Das has also worked with Astro All Asia Network based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he was Head of International Business Development. In his role there, he played a key role in the formation of the joint venture between Astro and NDTV to start news channels in Malaysia and Indonesia. He was also instrumental in forming a strategic tie-up with UTV to set up kids’ channels in Malaysia and Indonesia.
Das is a B-Tech from IIT Madras, postgraduate from IIM Calcutta and an alumnus of London School of Economics. He has held various positions at senior management levels in leading companies such as India Today Group, ABP Group, along with previously mentioned MCCS and Astro All Asia Networks.
Agrawal comes with rich experience of over 22 years. He had joined Cheil in 2008 from Bates, where he was Executive Vice President. Prior to that, he was with Grey Worldwide as Associate Vice President. He has also worked with Euro RSCG India as Group Account Director.
He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and has completed his MBA from IIM Bangalore.
