BARC Ratings: Viewership for Kannada News genre surges 47% in week 30

BARC Ratings: Viewership for Kannada News genre surges 47% in week 30

According to the BARC Ratings for week 30 (23-29 July, 2016), Kannada news genre saw a hike in ratings as issues such as KSRTC employees strike, protests against Mahadayi verdict and heavy rainfall,  through out the week kept viewers glued to the channels. On the sports front, ‘WWE Specials 2016 – Battleground’ improved the viewership of Ten 1 and Ten 1 HD on Monday. Virat Kohli’s double century on Day 2 of the ‘Seagram's Royal Stag Cup 2016 Live - West Indies vs India - 1st Test’ fetched impressive viewership ratings for Ten 2 and Ten 3. Among entertainment shows, The launch episode of &TV’s ‘The Voice India Kids’ increased the ratings of the slot on Sunday exponentially.  The World Television Premiere of ‘Poshter Girl’ on Colors Marathi also benefitted the channel.

Detailed Report Below:

The Kannada News went up by  47 times in Week 30 with respect to last four weeks average as issues concerning the state of Karnataka including the KSRTC employees strike from Sunday to Wednesday, followed by the protests against Mahadayi verdict from Wednesday to Friday. Also, on Friday, boats took to streets and locals were seen fishing on streets as heavy rainfall flooded Bengaluru.  The highest ratings were fetched by TV9 Kannada with 68,448 impressions ‘000s in week 30 with respect to 41,321 impressions ‘000s in the past four weeks.  Public TV got 27,896 impressions ‘000s in week 30 which were 19,321 impressions ‘000s in the past four weeks.

The next news channel in line was Suvarna News 24*7 which garnered 24,156 impressions ‘000s vis-a-vis  last four weeks average of 16,600 impressions ‘000s. ETV News Kannada, BTV News and Praja TV got 14,413 impressions ‘000s, 12,856 impressions ‘000s and 9,579 impressions ‘000s respectively in week 30 with respect to 11,421 impressions ‘000s, 10,726 impressions ‘000s and 7,364 impressions ‘000s respectively.

Udaya TV also saw a rise in its viewership in week 30 as it ratings rose to 8,149 impressions ‘000s from the average of 5,393 mpressions ‘000s of the past four weeks. Kasthuri News and Janasri News fetched 6,081 impressions ‘000s and 5,082 impressions ‘000s, higher than the past four weeks average of 4,823 impressions ‘000s and 3,689 impressions ‘000s respectively. Raj News garnered 2,924 impressions ‘000s, higher than the past four weeks average of 1,670 impressions’000s.

‘WWE Specials 2016 – Battleground’ improved the viewership of Ten 1 and Ten 1 HD on Monday. The ratings of Ten 1 rose by 60 times on Monday (18:00 – 21:33) to 4147 impressions ‘000s with respect to the past four weeks average of 69 impressions ‘000s. Whereas, the ratings of Ten 1 HD  rose by 40 times to 73 impressions ‘000s on Monday  (15:07 – 18:31) with respect to the past four weeks average of 2 impressions ‘000s.

The launch episode of ‘The Voice India Kids’ on &TV on Saturday took the (21:00 - 22:16) slot up by nearly 6 times. The viewership ratings of the slot rose to 4,647 impressions ‘000s in week 30 with respect to the previous four weeks average of 820 impressions ‘000s.

The World Television Premiere of ‘Poshter Girl’ on Colors Marathi took the (12:00 - 14:56) slot up by 3.7 times. The past four weeks average of the slot which stood at 352 impressions ‘000s rose to 1,288 impressions ‘000s in week 30.

The telecast of ‘Anand TV Film Awards’ on Asianet on Sunday took the (17:50 - 23:14) slot up by 1.7 times. In week 30 the slot fetched 4,341 impressions ‘000s where the past four weeks average of the slot were 2,604 impressions ‘000s.

Virat Kohli’s double century on Day 2 of the ‘Seagram's Royal Stag Cup 2016 Live - West Indies vs India - 1st Test’ fetched impressive viewership ratings for Ten 2 and Ten 3 from Friday to Sunday-(19:30 – 03:00) slot. The ratings which were 838 impressions ‘000s on day 1 (Thursday) rose to 1454 impressions ‘000s on day 2 (Friday) and the momentum was maintained with 1071 impressions ‘000s on day 3 (Saturday) and 1119 impressions ‘000s on day 4 (Saturday).
