BARC Ratings: Sun TV continues its edge over other regional channels, Udaya TV @ No.2 among Kannada channels in week 1

In week 1 (January 2-8, 2016) of the BARC Ratings, Sun TV fetched the highest ratings of 1046 million across all the regional channels in week 1 of 2016. Udaya Movies took a leap from the fourth spot to the second spot among Kannada channels.  ETV Telugu, Zee Marathi, Star Jalsha and Asianet let their markets of Telengana/Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai/Goa, West Bengal and Kerala respectively.

Sun TV garnered the maximum ratings of 1046 million across all the regional channels again. The channel witnessed a rise in the ratings from 986 million in week 52. KTV, at No.2, had 277 million ratings, less than previous week’s 317 million. Star Vijay with 181 million ratings stood at No.3. The channel had 213 million ratings in week 52. Polimer remained at No.4 with 96 million ratings. J TV replaced Kalaignar to acquire the fifth spot with 72 million ratings.

In the Karnataka market, Colors Kannada garnered 271 million ratings and continued to be the most viewed channel in the first week of the year. Udaya Movies took a leap from the fourth spot to the second spot with 154 million ratings, more than previous week’s 141 million ratings. The channel replaced Udaya TV which slipped down to the third spot as saw a fall in the ratings from 153 million to 140 million. Zee Kannada slipped down to the fifth spot as the channel saw a decline in the ratings from 143 million to 133 million. The channel that stood No.4 was Suvarna with 134 million ratings, more than previous week’s 130 million.

Among the Telugu channels (Andhra Pradesh/Telangana markets C&S 1lakh+), ETV Telugu continued to be the topmost channel second week in a row. The channel garnered 413 million ratings which was 446 million in week 52. Maa TV remained at No.2 with 373 million ratings, less than previous week’s 377 million ratings. Zee Telugu witnessed a rise in the ratings from 350 million ratings to 359 million and stood at No.3. Gemini TV saw a fall in the ratings from 313 million to 187 million and stood at No.4.

Among the Malyalam channels, Asianet remained to be the No.1 channel with 378 million ratings. The channel had 327 million ratings in week 52. Mazhavil Manorama stood at No.2 and saw a fall in the ratings from 120 million to 99 million. Surya TV retained its third spot with 74 million ratings, less than previous 86 million. Flowers TV remained at No.4 with 73 million ratings. Asianet Movies replaced Kiran TV to acquire the fifth spot with 52 million ratings.

In the Maharashtra market (Maharashtra/Goa markets C&S 1lakh+), Zee Marathi garnered 165 million ratings, less than last week’s 184 million, and stood at No.1. Colors Marathi fetched 93 million ratings, more than last week’s 79 million ratings and became the second most viewed channel in the market. Zee Talkies witnessed a marginal rise in the ratings from 65 million ratings to 66 million and stood at No.3. Star Pravah with 44 million ratings stood at No.4. DD Sahyadri was replaced by Maiboli to acquire the fifth spot and garnered 22 million ratings.

In the West Bengal market, Star Jalsha garnered 240 million ratings, less than previous week’s 265 million ratings and remained to be the No.1 channel. Zee Bangla saw a marginal decline in the ratings from 154 million to 153 million and continued to be the second most viewed channel in week 1 of this year. Jalsha Movies stood at No.3 this week also and garnered 65 million ratings, less than previous week’s 79 million. Zee Bangla Cinema garnered 31.14 million ratings and stood at No.4. The channel had 33 million ratings last week. Colors Bangla stood at No.5 with 31.11 million ratings, more than previous week’s 30 million.

In the Bihar and Jharkhand markets (C&S 1lakh+), Bhojpuri Cinema continued to be the No.1 channel. The channel fetched 19 million ratings, less than week 52’s 20 million. Big Magic Ganga acquired the second spot with an increased rating of 17 million than previous week’s 15 million. Dabangg garnered 9 million ratings and stood at No.3. Dangal TV with a consistent rating of 7 million stood at No.4. ETV Bihar Jharkhand garnered 4 million ratings, more than previous week’s 2 million and stood at No.5.

In the Odisha market, Sarthak TV witnessed a rise in the ratings from 94 million to 109 million and became the most viewed channel in week 1 of 2016. Tarang TV with 61 million ratings, less than previous week’s 70 million, stood at no.2. Colors Oriya replaced Odisha TV to acquire the third spot with 18 million ratings, more than previous week’s 14 million. Odisha TV garnered 17 million ratings, more than week 52’s 15 million but slipped down to the fourth spot. Prarthana remained at No.5 with 11 million ratings.
