BARC finally has released data on the HD channels. There is an increasingly growing market for broadcasters and has seen several broadcasters launching new HD channels which are expected to be a good ad revenue growth driver in the future for broadcasters. Among all the HD channels Star Plus HD gained the highest in terms of ratings from last week.
According to data sourced from BARC subscribers, week 17 (April 25 – May 1, 2015) All India 4+ Years ABCDE HSM markets (the ratings are average TVTs in 000’s), Star Plus HD grew by 130% since the first week of ratings of BARC. It had scored 11 GVTs in terms of viewership in week 17 from 5 GVTs in week 16.
On the other hand Colors HD saw a large dip in its ratings this week as it fell by 63%. It managed to score a ratings of 7 GVTs in week 17 from 18 GVTs in week 16.
Zee TV HD saw its ratings grow marginally to 8 GVTs in week 17 from 7 GVTs in week 16.
Life OK HD saw its ratings stay the same as 4 GVTs in week 17. Similarly, Sony TV HD’s ratings were at 4 GVTs.
In the Hindi movie HD category say Zee Cinema HD to rise while Star Gold HD and &pictures HD decline during the week. Zee Cinema HD grew by 35% to 6 GVTs in week 17 from 4 GVTs in week 16. Star Gold HD on the other hand declined to 2 GVTs in week 17 from 2 million GVTs in 16. &pictures HD has seen the growth of channel decline to declined to 0.21 GVTs this week from 0.47 GVTs in week 16.
In the infotainment genre Discovery HD World saw its ratings decline to 0.12 GVTs in week 17 from 0.18 GVTs in week 16.
Animal Planet HD World saw its ratings improve by 0.02 GVTs in week 17 from 0.0 GVTs in week 16.
Among the English movie channels Star Movies HD saw its ratings decline to 1 GVTs in week 17 from 2 GVTs in week 16. Sony PIX’s ratings on the other hand saw its ratings stay the same at 1 GVTs from last week.
In the English GEC HD space Zee Café HD did not see any difference in its ratings (0.0%), while Star World HD declined from 0.07 GVTs in week 16 to 0.02 GVTS in week 17.
While in the lifestyle genre TLC HD World saw its ratings stay the same at 0.01 GVTs,
