Year-ends bring a generous treat of awards ceremonies aired on various Hindi GECs in the period between December and January. Awards ceremonies, on ground and telecast, form a mighty chunk of the popularity and brand association for a Hindi GEC.
The awards season has two more treats for its viewers, after the ‘Idea Cellular Filmfare Awards 2011’ that aired last Sunday on February 6 pm on Sony Entertainment Television. Next weekend, will see the telecast of ‘Mirchi Music Awards’on February 13 at 8 pm. The final touch will be lent by ‘Max Stardust Award 2011’ to be telecast on February 20 at 8 pm on MAX. Leaving out ratings for the ‘Filmfare Awards’, which will be available next week, the top scorer so far has been ‘Big Star Entertainment Awards’, which was aired on Friday, December 31, 2010, (the alliance between STAR India and Reliance) that gave ratings of 5.51 TVR for Star Plus that week.
‘Karbonn Mobile Star Screen Awards’ that aired on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 8 pm pulled in ratings of 5.39 TVR for Star Plus. Last year, the Star Screen Awards had scored 6.58 TVR on the charts.
‘Zee Cine Awards’ aired on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 8 pm. The property has been revived after a two-year gap and pulled in a 4.46 TVR and was among the top ten shows of the week. Last year, ‘Zee Rishtey Awards 2010’ pulled in a 6.9 TVR for Zee TV.
‘Apsara Awards’ 2011’ aired at 8 pm on Colors and scored 2.62 TVR. Last year, ‘Apsara Awards’ aired on January 17, 2010 and pulled in a 2.79 TVR for the channel.
Weekend Twists… and more
As is known, Star Plus launched three new weekend shows, two fictions and one reality show, starting January 29, 2011, which opened with high numbers. ‘Wife Bina Life’ opened with a 3.63 TVR and has pulled in 1.81 TVR in TAM Week 6 (January 30 to February 5). ‘Love U Zindagi’ opened with a 2.9 TVR and has gathered 1.29 TVR in its second week. The third show, ‘Pyaar Mein Twist’, opened with 1.43 TVR and has accumulated a 0.9 TVR in its second week.
Star’s weekend menu faced a strong competitive environment. Color’s aired the Salman Khan-starrer ‘Dabanng’ at 8 pm, which grossed 4.7 TVR for the channel. On Zee TV, ‘Yahaan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli’ and ‘Dance India Dance’ raked in numbers of 2.31 TVR and 2.7 TVR, respectively, in the 9-10.30 pm primetime bands. Sony’s top performers on Saturday were ‘Jubilee Comedy Circus’ and ‘CID’ with ratings of about 2.8 TVR. It was also the weekend night to sample ‘Zor Ka Jhatka’ that Saturday, which managed a 1.04 TVR.
New shows launched by Colors, ‘Phulwa’ and ‘Mukti Bandhan’, got 3.46 TVR and 2.84 TVR, respectively, on their opening days and have settled at weekly ratings of 2 plus and 2.5 this week. ‘Pavitra Rishta’ continued to dominate the 9 pm slot on most days of the week, with a high point of 6.44 TVR on Thursday. Star Plus owned the 9.30 pm slot this week with ‘Yeh Rishta…’ scoring high on most days and peaking at 4.32 TVR on a Thursday.
