Asianet scores high with ‘Idea Star Singer finale’; to replicate content for other markets

Asianet’s popular reality show ‘Idea Star Singer’ has garnered high TRP scores for the channel in its finale event. As claimed by the channel and supported by TAM figures, the event broke the TV rating records and has become the most watched event ever telecast on Malayalam television.

According to TAM data, in Kerala total market, the show scored 28.79 TVRs with a share of 71 percent and GRP of 307 (Cs Fe ABC 15+, Kerala Total), and left channels like Surya , Kairali, Kiran and Amritha TV trailing behind. The previous season of the programme had also brought in high ratings for the channel.

Speaking on the shows’ success, R Sreekandan Nair, VP - Programmes, Asianet Communciations, said, “The production of ‘Star Singer’ is done exclusively in-house, with the very best talents of Malayalam television. The rating of the grand finale of ‘Idea Star Singer 2008’ in Thiruvananthapuram recently touched a TRP of 34 points in female 15+ at 11.30 pm, which is an all time record in the history of any stage event in South India. This success is the result of our team work.”

Commenting on the format of the show and possibility of future success with the same format, Nair said, “We are very confident that the current ‘Idea Star Singer Season 4’ will deliver two times better than in 2007 and 2008. However, we are not thinking of commencing programmes of similar formats any more. A plethora of same type of programmes will end up in monotony.”

He, however, added, “There is a possibility that Asianet will replicate this success in its other markets, and we have already started ‘Star Singer’ in Kannada.”
