Arnab Goswami has become an icon for the country: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, was the Chief Guest at IMPACT Person of the Year, 2015 Award, instituted by the exchange4media Group to recognize excellence in the Advertising, Media and Marketing domain.

Arnab Goswami, President-News & Editor-in-Chief, Times Now and ET Now, today won the IMPACT Person of the Year, 2015 Award, at a glittering award ceremony in Mumbai yesterday Ravi Shankar Prasad handed over the trophy and citation to Goswami.

In his address, Prasad said, “When I was invited by Anurag (Anurag Batra) for this function, I never knew I had to give this award to Arnab Goswami. For the last 15 years Arnab has never let me speak freely on his show, and today, when I finally got an opportunity to speak, the anchor tells me to say few words only, this is not acceptable,” he mentioned on a lighter note, breaking the gathering into spontaneous laughter.

For young journalists he advised that there is no substitute for hard work citing Goswami as an example  he said,  “Arnab, I don’t know whether you recall that or not. Our BJP’s national executive was in Panjim. Mr Vajapyee was the PM and Arnab had come to cover the rally. After the rally he had no qualms to pick up the camera and take it on his shoulders.

“The journey had begun there, and now we see he has become an icon for the country,” he added. 

On India’s digitization, the minister said, “As a communication minister, India is home to 980 milion mobile phones. Our internet is going to reach 400 million by this year end. I have asked to make it 500 million. India has the biggest consumption of smartphone after the US, biggest use of Facebook and Google after US. India is entirely a different country. With people’s quest for information through social media, available on the mobile otherwise, I totally agree with Arnab that India is going to become a leader in the field of media in the world. ”
