Amrita TV wins several awards for unique programming

The two-year-old Malayalam satellite channel Amrita TV has bagged four awards at the Annual TV Awards 2006 presented by the Union of German Malayali Association, Germany. At the same time, Film City magazine conferred seven awards on Amrita TV.

The Union of German Malayali Association gave the awards in different categories. Santwanam, the unique channel identity programme where celebrities spend time with underprivileged and the homeless in various orphanages and hospices, won the best television programme award. The uniqueness of this highly acclaimed show is that no ads are shown during this show.

Super Star, a talent hunt show which set a new benchmark in music reality programmes in South India, bagged the Best Music Show Award, while Sathi Lelavathi, a comedy show, won the Best Female Comic The Special Jury Award was conferred on Neelan, Chief Executive Editor, News Division, for his overall contribution to media.

Meanwhile, Film City magazine also presented Amrita TV with seven awards. The channel's telefilm "Neermathalathinte Pookal" won three awards -- best telefilm, best direction and best photography. Another telefilm produced by Amrita TV, Irulmekhagalkkum Madhye, bagged awards for best screenplay and best actor award for one of the artistes.

The anchor of the Amrita TV’s longest running programme, Udayamaritam, which crossed its 700th episode recently, bagged the best anchor award.

When asked to comment on the channel bagging so many awards, Sushil Kumar, Global Head-Marketing & Communications, Amrita TV, said, “As much as 74 per cent of the programming content is produced in-house by a team of talented and experienced directors. We also have direct control over all aspects of production and are able to maintain the quality and integrity in our programming character.”

The channel recently bagged won best telefilm Award for Neermathalathende Pookal from the Kerala Film Audience Council. It may be recalled that Amrita TV was bestowed with 15 of the 29 Kerala state awards for excellence in television in different categories.
