Amrita TV to launch ‘Super Dancer Junior’; Udayamritam’ enters Limca Book of Records

Buoyant by the success of ‘Super Dancer’, Amrita TV is now gearing for ‘Super Dancer Junior’. The new show will be an elimination dance contest in the folk, semi-classical, cinema, thematic choreography or fusion dance styles, on the lines of ‘Super Dancer’. The half-hour show is expected to go on-air by mid-September in the 7 pm time slot.

The channel is now inviting aspirants in the age group of 10-15 years for the same. Auditions are being held in Bangalore, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.

Noted film choreographer Kala Master from Chennai, who has choreographed over 3,600 songs for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi films, will be the main judge for the new show, along with a panel comprising other renowned artistes. Kala Master also was the main judge for ‘Super Dancer’.

‘Super Dancer Junior’ will be filmed on specially designed sets with live audiences. This will be a high energy, professional, quality reality show with many noted dance celebrities participating in it.

Meanwhile, ‘Super Dancer’ which was launched on May 14 with 20 contestants, now has six contenders fighting for the crown with a first prize of a Suzuki Swift. The grand finale will be telecast live as one of the Amrita TV’s programme menu during Onam, this month.

This apart, Amrita TV’s morning programme ‘Udayamritam’ has been featured in ‘The Limca Book of Records 2007 -- India at Her Best’ for creating the longest single-shot non-fiction programme in Indian television.

Around 50 traditional artistes and 75 crew members worked in unison to create this episode of ‘Udayamritam’ .Unlike fiction, the team was not able to dub the audio later and so went ahead with spot recording. The entire sequence was recorded using a hand-held camera. The show was anchored by Mochitha, winner of the State Award for Best Television Presenter 2005-2006. Reji Syne was the director and Prasanth was the cameraman.

‘Udayamritam’ is a one-hour morning show focussing on heritage, culture, yoga and folklore, and has been telecast non-stop daily from 6.30 am to 7.30 am since the inception of the channel.
