Akaash Bangla gets a makeover, beefs up programming

Akaash Bangla, the Bengali general entertainment channel, has undergone a makeover. The channel not only has a new logo and a new identity but in terms of programming too, there have been some changes.

Game shows will clearly occupy a central place in the new scheme of things. ‘Dupurer Rajkannya’ is an afternoon game show specially meant for housewives. Another new game show, ‘Lakshmi Elo Ghare’, will be telecast between 5.30 PM and 6 PM. This is an anchor based game show and will take place in studio sets. The channel spokesperson, confirming the new additions in programming, hoped that the mega prize, a Maruti car, would be a big draw for this show.

The primetime slot of 7 PM to 9 PM will see four new serials daily, namely, ‘Andar Mahal’, ‘Bijoyini’, ‘Probahini e Shomai’ and ‘Shanai’. From 9-9.30 PM, the existing programme ‘Shom theke Shoni’ will continue but under a new name, ‘Cho Diner Galpo’. This will be followed by a reality crime show, hitherto called ‘Police Files’, now re-christened ‘Police Diary’.

The city and district based news capsule, which was hitherto a half an hour programme, has been extended to one hour in the 6-7 PM time band. ‘Biswa Barta’ or the news capsule on international news will be telecast between11.15-11.30 PM. A new breakfast show, ‘Aaj Shakale’, will come in the 8-9 AM time band and will have panel or general discussions on various topics.
